Deputy Fire Chief gets car yanked
Thoughts:
speed kills people and just because you have a badge or wear a fire hat it will not save you, even when you get stopped for speeding. Some people might be upset with the OPP stopping and charging the deputy fire chief as he was heading to a funeral but bottom line is better this than another funeral.
Story:
Police impounded a Toronto deputy fire chief’s vehicle and suspended his licence for a week after charging him with speeding under the province’s stunt-driving legislation.
OPP officers pulled over deputy fire chief Daryl Fuglerud’s red Toyota Highlander on Hwy. 401, just west of Port Hope, at about 9:30 a.m. last Friday and charged him with travelling at a speed of 150 km/h. The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 100 km/h.
Acting Toronto Fire Chief Frank Lamie said Fuglerud and another deputy chief were heading to a firefighter’s funeral near Kingston that morning.
Fuglerud was pulled over after being spotted by an OPP aircraft patrolling a 3-km stretch of the highway.
He is currently on a booked vacation and was unavailable for comment.
An OPP press release was issued three days after the incident, after a request for information was made by a reporter to the Northumberland OPP.
If convicted, Fuglerud faces a minimum fine of $2,000. He’s scheduled to appear Aug. 5 in a court in Cobourg.
