Woman detained forced to strip at border

Thoughts:

I don’t really know what powers the border guards have when it comes to detaining someone and ordering a strip search. Now it this case it was not a strip search as such but a strip down of clothes so that a female agent could see if there were tattoos on the person in question. My thoughts are that in todays day and age that the border guards should have access to drivers license photos as well as mug-shots. It would save the embarrassment that this poor woman had to go through.  It is the old story better safe than sorry but when the technology is out there it should be used to ensure other innocent travelers do not have to go through this type of search.

Story:

MONTREAL–A Montreal woman says Canadian border agents made her strip to see if she had a pink tattoo on her buttocks after mixing her up with an alleged criminal.

Sylvie Ménard, who has no history of trouble with the law, flew home from a relaxing Mexico vacation in April to a humiliating encounter with airport authorities.

Ménard, manager of a wine business, is still seeking an explanation why she was handcuffed and locked up, then told to undress.

“They don’t have enough information to identify who’s a criminal and who isn’t,” she said. “And that’s the big problem.”

Dominique McNeely, a spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency, said he could not discuss the case, but said false matches occur and such checks are necessary.
